What it means

What a step leaves in /out becomes its output tree, owned by 0:0, with the modes the step wrote and no extended attributes. A tree holds files, directories and symbolic links only, so a device file, a FIFO or a socket left in /out fails the step instead of being dropped: a later step or the image would miss it. An output larger than the store's limits on files, paths or depth is refused as the store refuses any tree (E0415).
