zbx keeps its store under $XDG_DATA_HOME/zbx/store, or ~/.local/share/zbx/store when that is not set. Neither variable names an absolute directory here, so there is nowhere to put the store.

Set HOME, or point XDG_DATA_HOME at a directory you can write to.
